Frequently Asked Questions

Label Express

Answers from the Label Express team on lead times, ordering, accreditations, materials, storage and shelf life for custom labels.

01What is your standard lead time?

Our approach is to work to your delivery requirements whenever we can, so our first question is, when do you need labels? Get a Quote and we'll confirm a lead time based on your specification.

02I want to order labels, what should I do?

Call our sales team on 020 8683 3000, email us at csmdept@label-express.co.uk or complete our enquiry form online and we will contact you to discuss your label requirements and look to open an account for you.

03What should I do to set up my account?

If you require a credit account please contact our Customer Service Team on 020 8683 3000. You will need to complete our new customer Credit Application Form.

04Is manufacturing carried out on one site?

Yes, labels are produced from start to finish (receipt of artwork to boxed labels) at our Croydon facility. Find out more about how Why Label Express keeps everything in-house.

05What accreditations do you hold?

We hold certifications for BRCGS, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. See our Accreditations page for what each one means.

06What information do you need to quote for my label requirements?

Our first question is, what are you using the labels for? What is the application? We can then make recommendations on material and adhesive, among other things. From there, we need to know the quantity, label size and the number of colours plus the varnish finish, and whether they will be hand or machine applied.

07Can you print any colour or shape label?

We have varied capabilities with the use of our digital and flexo presses, we can produce labels across the full colour spectrum. We also hold thousands of cutters in stock for each press. If we do not currently have a cutter that matches the exact size or shape you require, we can source this.

08What does winding specification (winding direction) mean?

As our labels are supplied on reels, we will ask for confirmation of the winding direction, in other words, which way the labels need to come off the reel. The required winding format depends on the applicator used during final product labelling.

09Do you charge for delivery?

The cost for standard delivery within the UK is included in the price. For same day or expedited deliveries, these may incur costs.

10Do you print digitally?

Yes. We can produce shorter run requirements on our inkjet digital press.

11Do you do flexo printing?

Yes. For high volume requirements we can produce up to 8 colours on our flexo press.

12Can you provide a press proof before production?

Yes, we can offer press proofs before production and a PDF proof is always supplied for new or amended labels before production.

13Can I use a label on any surface?

Some surfaces and packaging require specific types of material and adhesive. We are here to help guide you to the best possible solution.

14How should I store my labels?

Labels must be stored at 20–22°C and 50–55% relative humidity. Reels should be stored flat and not on their sides and kept away from direct sunlight and heat sources. A first-in, first-out (FIFO) stock-rotation system should be used.

15What is the shelf life of my labels?

Material manufacturers generally warrant materials up to two years, and so our recommendation is that labels remain usable for up to 18 months after the date they were manufactured, as long as they are stored under the recommended conditions.
